Do you spend more time designing a floater or platform and managing the fabrication part of the project than planning for a successful marine operation?

Planning an offshore operation is a critical task and the least appreciated portion of an EPCI project.  Project Managers and Engineers typically get caught up in detailed design and engineering, managing fabrication schedules and ensuring critical equipment is being delivered on time and only turn their attention to the installation planning and operations at a very late stage.  This stage is actually the most expensive and depends largely on sophisticated installation vessels and being blessed with good weather and metocean conditions, which are not in anyone's control.

However, with deepwater operations being executed in remote locations with challenging conditions, a little early planning and involvement of experienced personnel on the project team can optimize floater design and save the project a large sum of unnecessary expenses.
